The intellectual property training programs

 

The intellectual property training programs offered by VIPRI are designed for and at the request of various target groups such as enforcement agencies, IP agents, universities, enterprises… on different topics relating to IP protection and enforcement issues. The most important IP training program which VIPRI are now focusing on is “Intellectual Asset Management” (IAM) program.

 

Curriculums of the IAM program are appropriately designed for each target group and at various levels as follows:

 

(i) Basic level in one month duration (approx. 60 hours);

(ii) Advanced level in three month duration (approx. 180 hours); and

(iii) Professional level in five month duration (approx. 300 hours).

 

Those curriculums can be designed in type of a complete program or a moduled program depending on actual trainees’ needs. In general, the topics in each curriculum are as follows (Please see the detailed programs hereinafter)

 

 (i) General introduction to intellectual assets and intellectual asset management, i.e. concepts, types, roles and management principles of intellectual assets...;

(ii) Generation/creation of intellectual assets, i.e. finding and identifying intellectual assets; capacity and resource analysis; policy on exploitation and sharing the rights over intellectual assets...;

(iii) Acquisition of rights over intellectual assets, i.e. requirements and registration procedure, intellectual property portfolio management...;

(iv) Protection and enforcement of rights over intellectual asset, i.e. policing and taking measures against infringement activities; intellectual property law overview and case studies; anti-counterfeit goods measures...;

(v) Exploitation and commercialization of intellectual assets and intellectual property rights, i.e. using, licensing the rights over intellectual assets;

(vi) Management of intellectual asset value, i.e. intellectual property asset valuation and audit tools;

(vii) Organization and exploitation of intellectual property information, i.e. roles and tools for searching and using intellectual property information; intellectual property databases and case law databases...;

 (viii) Intellectual asset management strategy, i.e. methods on developing intellectual property asset management strategy.

 

Target group(s):

 

In general, the IAM program aims to various targeted audiences, including 15 groups depending on type of trainee's enterprise and trainee's position at the enterprise ("enterprise” includes universities, science and technology organizations, manufacturers, traders, SMEs…). The type of enterprise is divided into 5 groups:

 

 (i) Research, training group;

(ii) Manufacturing group;

(iii) Trading group;

(iv) Legal and enforcement group; and

(v) Lawyer and practitioner group.

 

The trainee's position is also divided into 3 groups:

 

(i) leaders, policy makers;

(ii) executive managers; and

(iii) creators/innovators, manufacturers, designers...
